The Importance of Cleaning Your Windows Registry

By on Dec 12, 2013 in Computer repair | 0 comments

Computer crashes and Windows errors are the worst things that could happen to your computer. It is an unpleasant experience and not to mention costly and inconvenient. Computer technicians do not come cheap as well as computer parts. The good news is that such computer problems can be avoided with proper maintenance and prevention. You could be spared the loss of important files and cash by cleaning your operating system’s registry, where around 80% of computer problems start from. Computer registries cause problems when they overflow with unwanted data and information fed to it by the Internet. Users should therefore exercise utmost responsibility in their Internet surfing activities. The frequent installation and un-installation of applications, utilities, programs, and games can slow down your system. For every program or application you install, data is entered to your registry. They continue to accumulate as you keep on installing more programs. Your registry is bound to crash if you keep this up and do not remove unnecessary data as you go. It is also not advisable to remove programs without following the appropriate steps. If you try to remove programs incorrectly, there is a tendency to leave several “orphan registry keys, which also add to the size of information your registry is already carrying. Bulky programs such as Norton products come with hundreds of registry entries that using the correct removal tools would not suffice. Furthermore, when you remove entries from the registry, place holders or empty registry keys usually remain, not much help to reducing your registry size. Malicious spyware and viruses are also capable of inputting fallacious entries to your windows registry. They could even alter existing entries that cause errors in your system. Your PC system works by loading the registry into the hard disk. Each time you shut down, changes made to the registry are entered in the registry files in the physical memory. So when your system crashes, the registry files cannot be updated with the new data. This results in abrupt shutdowns and system crashes. Your registry also sustains damage. What to Do To make sure that your registry is clean and get peace of mind, take the following simple but often taken for granted steps. Download a...

How to Repair Runtime Error 429

By on Dec 12, 2013 in Computer repair | 0 comments

Runtime errors are not an uncommon problem with Microsoft Windows-based systems. One of the ones seen most is runtime error 429. This error occurs most often when you are trying to automate some of the functions of Microsoft Office applications. The trigger is usually the CreateObject function or the New statement in Visual Basic if you are trying to create an instance of the Office application. The error message usually reads, “Active X component can’t create object.” What Causes Runtime Error 429? Application bugs or mis-configured applications on automation servers can often cause this error. The first thing to do when you get this error is verify that the application is installed on your hard drive, not just on the network. You can test this by clicking Start on your computer, selecting Run and then typing the name of the application, for instance MS Word, in the command line and then clicking ok. The application will open if it is present on the hard drive, but not if it is only available through the network. It can not be made to work through automation if not on the hard drive. You may be able to fix the problem by re-registering the application on your system registry. You must know the proper File Path to do this, however. How to Fix Runtime Error 429 Another possible fix would be to verify the registry value in the system. You can Run the registry editor with the command “regedit” in the command field of the Run dialog. You can verify that the system is using the proper Windows registry key to refer to the application by copying and pasting that value into the command field of the Run dialog. If the registry value is correct, the application will load and run. Otherwise, there is a problem with the File Path that is causing runtime error 429. If Excel.xlb or Normal.dot templates become corrupted in the Excel application, this may cause failure of automated processing and create a runtime error 429. Renaming these files may fix the problem if they are corrupt. They can be recreated by the applications that use them without the corrupted parts, later. If renaming them does not help,...

This article will help users tackle common EXE errors by enlisting some simple guidelines. EXE errors, such as rundll32.exe problems may occur if the program you are trying to use has corrupt files. You can resolve such errors by replacing the corrupt files. If this does not work, it is best that you first uninstall and then reinstall the problem software. To be able to fix the problem, it is essential that you ensure complete removal of the software when you uninstall the software. This means that all registry entries related to the program and the program folder should be completely deleted from the PC. If you are unable to achieve this goal by using the Add or Remove Programs utility, you may opt to use an efficient third-party program uninstaller. It is also a good idea to clean up the registry with the help of a good registry cleaner to ensure that no orphaned program entries are left behind. It is essential to update your software to ensure that your programs are free of bugs and have no outdated files. By on Dec 12, 2013 in Computer repair | 0 comments

Runtime errors are among the most common errors you will encounter on a Windows-based computer. It is not that your PC has a personal vendetta against you, as these are issues being experienced by users all over the world. Unfortunately, it has simply become a way of life for those who have elected to make Microsoft Windows their operating system of choice. In this article, we will shine the light on runtime 204, a regular annoyance that doesn’t stand a chance when you know how to approach it. What’s Behind Runtime Error 204? When you turn on your PC, after the desktop loads up, you could be immediately greeted by an error message that reads something to the tune of “Runtime error 204: Error at 00004B05.” After receiving the message, several computer users have reported problems ranging from certain applications not opening or functioning properly to the Windows system freezing or crashing completely. Like many of its troublesome partners, runtime error 204 has a number of different causes. Some of the usual suspects are software flaws, malware infections and registry problems. Buggy Software In the case of runtime error 204, your problems could be related to a software program that was released without removing all the kinks. This could be something you downloaded free from the web or even a premium product you grabbed off the shelf. Though sometimes subtle, a software bug can cause your system to behave in such a manner that it appears to be infected with a virus. You may experience major slowness or stability issues that render your PC virtually inoperable. When this is the case, getting rid of runtime error 204 and your performance issues is often as simple as removing or updating the tricky software. Dangerous Internet Programs A vast majority of the malicious items floating from PC to PC and network to network have come directly from the internet. Nasty programs such as viruses, worms, spyware and Trojans are typically bundled to email attachments and seemingly desirable items you download from the web. Some are nestled on websites just waiting for you to pay a visit. If you do, you could have made yourself the latest victim, especially without reliable security...

First Steps to Fix Your Slow Computer

By on Dec 12, 2013 in Computer repair | 0 comments

How many times have you found yourself complaining about how slow your computer is and how you wish that there was something you could do about it. Well, the good news is that there is something you can do to fix your slow computer. By performing a few simple PC maintenance tasks you can easily fix slow computer problems and speed up your computer. Let us have a look at some of the most essential ones. One of the most essential tasks to prevent computer errors is to update your operating system, software and device drivers. These updates are released on a regular basis by the manufacturer of each product. There are two main goals of these updates—to patch up any detected security vulnerabilities because they can be exploited by malware programs built around them and to include any new features in the existing product. There are many software products that have a built in update feature. So, you can enable this feature to ensure that your software is always up to date. For example, to automatically install updates related to Microsoft products, you may enable the Windows Automatic Update feature. If an automatic update feature is not available, you may need to perform the update task manually on a regular basis. Next and an equally important activity is to have tools that can prevent and also remove malware infections from your computer. For example, you need an antivirus utility to prevent and remove viruses, Trojans, worms and so on. In the same way, you need antispyware to get rid of malicious spyware and adware programs. As a vigilant user, you must keep these tools updated with the latest definitions and enable their real-time protection feature to ensure that you are protected from these malicious programs at all times. As your PC gets older, your hard disk tends to get filled up with programs and data you do not need. It also gets fragmented when a single data is broken into multiple pieces and stored all over the hard disk, wherever space is available. To fix hard disk problems, first use the Add or Remove Programs or a third-party program uninstaller utility to remove all programs you don’t use. Next, clean...
